Staying in a hostal is an affordable option if you are on a budget. Hostals are cheaper than hotels and they offer you a room, usually with an en-suit bathroom, although sometimes the bathroom is shared, so always check when you are making the booking.

A hostal will have a reception and some have internet via a PC in the lobby. They also usually have various tourist information leaflets about local attractions for you to take away. The rule of thumb is that hostals are usually either 1 or 2 star.

Don't confuse a 'hostal' with a 'hostel'! A hostel is a youth hostel, where you'll find shared dormitories. A youth hostel is a place that students and travellers usually stay in. In a hostal you get your own room.

This hostal features central heating, a bar, and they allow pets. There is a PC in reception with internet access, and parking is available if reserved in advance. Most of the rooms have been refurbished, and the refurbished ones are the best to ask for.

They do say that they are next to the river, but during my visit in July, the river outside the Margarit was almost dry.
