Review: Hotel Historic in Girona

The Hotel Historic is a really charming stone building in the heart of Girona’s old town. It’s in a very peaceful area and close to the cathedral, museums and other main attractions of the town. Inside it’s modern and comfortable. You can also choose between a hotel room or a self catering apartment.

Hotel Facilities

The hotel has its own restaurant called ‘Alemany’. It is tastefully decorated in an old fashioned style in-keeping with the rest of the building. The restaurant specialises in Catalan cuisine.

There’s a small but comfortable TV lounge area on the right as you enter the hotel, decorated in an ethnic style. To really help you relax the hotel has a massage therapist available.

Facilities For The Disabled

There is a specially adapted room for the disabled. The room is called ‘Girona’ and has a 2 m² shower and is more spacious than other rooms to allow for wheelchair access.

Rooms

The rooms are stunning. Each one is decorated in an individual style that features rustic elements of the original stone building. Some rooms have a bare stone wall, and the lighting is softly placed to accentuate the colours and artistic design of each room.

All rooms are sound-proofed and also have air-conditioning, heating, satellite TV, radio, phone, safe and en-suite bathroom.

There are 6 double rooms and 2 suites. The rooms all face outwards into the quaint narrow, cobbled streets with views of the other ancient buildings and higher rooms have views of the rooftops.

The hotel also offers self-catering apartments in the same building. Each apartment has a kitchen, lounge, cable TV, internet access and a daily cleaning service. They are immaculately decorated and have a modern feel combined with rustic elements of the original old building.

The Hotel Historic is about 100 metres from the cathedral in Girona old town. The hotel sits on a hill, which you will have to walk down to get to the tourist information office, the river and to cross to the modern part of town.

The street where the hotel is located is quiet. Within a 5 minute walk you will come to cash points, restaurants and shops on the Rambla de la Llibertat, which is the main road that runs parallel to the river.

There are also several restaurants dotted through the back streets of the old town between the hotel and the Rambla de la Llibertat.

There’s a bus stop in the square near the tourist information, and a tourist ‘train’ (that is actually a car pulling carriages) that begins its journey around historical Girona from the bridge next to the tourist information office. Just 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

How To Travel From The Airport To The Hotel

Via Taxi: A taxi from Girona airport to the Hotel Historic will take about 20 minutes and will cost approximately 18 euros.

Via Bus: You can take a bus from Girona airport to the bus station in Girona. From there you will have to take a taxi for another 5 – 10 minutes. The bus from Girona airport is the ‘Barcelona Bus’ and it costs 2.00 euros for a single ticket.

Via Car: You can drive from Girona airport to Girona centre in approximately 20 minutes. However, do take note that many of the roads in the historic part of Girona are for residents only, and so you will have to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the hotel.
